Each year, the UltramapGlobal team travels the world, to exhibitions, to meet old friends and new. This year, at the Submarine Networks 2024 Exhibition in Islington, we planned ahead and organised a coffee and a chat with three existing UltramapGlobal customers.
When chatting to customers, to ask what they value about UltramapGlobal, here’s what is normally mentioned:
- Peace of Mind. A general feeling of security, so I can get on with the day job.
- Enhanced Reputation. Brand Association benefit with the AssetMonitor and/or UltramapGlobal brands.
- Insight and Information. Data to help us learn, predict and plan.
- Enhanced Sustainability Credentials.
- Physical Protection of Assets. Fewer, or even no (zero) cable strikes since using UltramapGlobal.
Here’s what happened when we spoke to Bill from Colt.
Client. Colt.
What they do. Telecoms cable owners.
What UltramapGlobal do for them. Monitor and protect all (53,000 kilometres) cables in and around the UK, North Sea, across the Atlantic to the US, and around the coastline of South America.
When they became a client. 2018.
Who we spoke to Bill Glendenning (Marine Technical Programme Manager).
Interviewer Mychael Owen, UltramapGlobal Brand and Marketing Lead.
In your own words, what does being an UltramapGlobal client give Colt?
“Protection from UltramapGlobal means our subsea telecoms cables, that in actual fact, end-to-end would stretch one-and-a-quarter times around the circumference of the earth, can be looked after by me and just one other person. It’s amazing.”
“But not only that, on the hugely rare occasion that a cable is hit since UltramapGlobal’s support, UltramapGlobal can pinpoint exactly what happened where, when. The combination of dramatically reducing strikes, plus optimising remedial activities is likely to be saving us tens of millions of pounds annually.”
“UltramapGlobal make my life easier. I get peace of mind – weekly. Because I ask them to report weekly.”
“Before using UltramapGlobal we had 22 cable strikes in one year. Since using UltramapGlobal we’ve never had more than 2 cable strikes in any one year. In most years – it’s zero strikes. They’re good to work with too. Nothing is too much trouble.”
