UltramapGlobal Client Interviews 2024. Føroya Tele (Faroese Telecom).

Each year, the UltramapGlobal team travels the world, to exhibitions, to meet old friends and new. This year, at the Submarine Networks 2024 Exhibition in Islington, we planned ahead and organised a coffee and a chat with three existing UltramapGlobal customers.

When chatting to customers, to ask what they value about UltramapGlobal, here’s what is normally mentioned:

  1. Peace of Mind. A general feeling of security, so I can get on with the day job.
  2. Enhanced Reputation. Brand Association benefit with the AssetMonitor and/or UltramapGlobal brands.
  3. Insight and Information. Data to help us learn, predict and plan.
  4. Enhanced Sustainability Credentials.
  5. Physical Protection of Assets. Fewer, or even no (zero) cable strikes since using UltramapGlobal.

Here’s what happened when we spoke to Brian from Foroya Tele.

Client. Føroya Tele (Faroese Telecom).
What they do. Owner operators of the Faroe Island’s national Telecoms infrastructure.
What we do for them. Protect (part of) Shefa cable system. They own all of the system.
When they became a client. 2020.
Who we spoke to. Brian Rosendahl Rasmussen. Project Manager at Shefa P/f (Faroese Telecom).
Interviewer. Mychael Owen. UltramapGlobal Brand and Marketing Lead.

In your own words, what does being an UltramapGlobal client give Foroyo Tele?

“Almost immediately after we launched our business, way before we knew about or had met UltramapGlobal, we had cable strikes to contend with. It was really frustrating. So inconvenient. And expensive. We had no monitoring at all in place in the beginning. So we began trying to tackle the problems we were having around cable strikes – ourselves.

“We had to try to work out who had damaged our cables. Then, prove it was who we thought it was. Then, try to get who we thought was causing the damage to change their behaviour. We’d had enough of being reactive with the early cable strikes. We wanted to take the initiative and be proactive. We wanted to be protected. But it was so hard.”

“Then we met Martin, one of the UltramapGlobal founders, through ESCA. And that was that. The answer! Someone with the experience in cable protection that we needed. UltramapGlobal was already doing what we had been trying to do – for years. It’s been great since we started working with Martin and his team. We’ve gone from many cable strikes each year, to just one cable strike since 2022.”
